Hatha Yoga is a system of physical postures (asanas) and breathing techniques designed to create a balance of strength and flexibility within the body, and to create a better understanding of breathing. One of the most widely practiced forms of yoga, Hatha encourages mental focus, physical stamina and relaxation in its practitioners.
Based on the Iyengar Hatha Yoga system and developed by master Iyengar teacher Judith Hanson Lasater Ph.D, PT; and based on the Iyengar Hatha Yoga system; Restorative yoga is a system of Hatha Yoga postures developed to encourage rejuvenation of the tissues of the body and mind. The practitioner, with the aid of a yoga teacher, moves into a posture (asana) deeply supported by blankets, blocks, or other props and are held for several minutes at a time. Using conscious relaxation techniques, the goal of the practice is to receive all of the energetic benefits of the asana without exerting physical effort.
Restorative yoga can help relieve the effects of chronic stress, reduce blood pressure, and counter the effects of gravity with regard to blood and lymph fluid accumulation in the lower extremities.
